That is an epic drive - I've done it once, probably won't do it again! A bit hair-raising! Even on a good day (was warm and bright when I drove it). I remember driving down thru Kyeburn on my way back home - just incredible landscape. Magnificent desolation!
It's about my fourth time through, so that's probably enough. There's an even more epic drive nearby, starting at Kurow, up through the Hakatamarea Valley and ending north of Tekapo, with no pub on the way. I did it by accident one day, wondering where the road went - ran out of time to do it again this trip.
